Nowadays, instead of dressing in sheets or publicly espousing hate messages, many extremists will talk of individual liberties, states’ rights, and how to make the world a better place. These criteria might be just a wee bit overbroad. Consider these statements from a prominent public figure:
- "We believe in free enterprise. We believe in entrepreneurship. We believe in individual liberties."
- "I believe it's discriminatory, I think it interferes with States' rights, and we will work with Congress to overturn it.."
- "It is up to every one of you to do his or her small part to make the world a better place."
According to the DOD document, the person who made these comments might be an extremist. But his name is Barack Obama.
